Personal Biography Kathy Daywalt is a prolific working artist with 30 years of successful experience in a variety of mediums. Her works have been included in numerous juried exhibitions and one-person shows. Works are in private collections from New York to California. Daywalt's studies in printmaking are culminating in an ever-expanding body of relief prints, expressing her own personal wit and style. Many of her hand-pulled prints are reduction prints in which the plate is cut away as each succeeding color is printed, destroying the plate and limiting the number in the editions. A true water baby, Kathy Daywalt was brought up on the South River off Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. Most warm summer days were spent with her siblings- feet up, head down - trying to develop the ability to breath under water. One can see how she is inspired to continue her series of mermaids, from whimsical to serious. The Playing Card Series was initiated by her interest in the complexity of designs on decks of real playing cards. A deck purchased in France inspired a series with figures in Elizabethan dress. Kathy's cards are evolving into more and more imaginative themes. Daywalt's style, which she refers to as "Nouveau Folk" is recognizable whether the subject matter is floral, animal, human or mythical and whether the relief cut sub-process is black and white, reduction color or hand-colored. Her works are produced with fine quality art supplies and when framed are done so using preservation materials and methods. In April 2008 she released her 100th edition.
Kathy Daywalt's work may be viewed at Benfield Gallery, Severna Park, Maryland; Main Street Gallery, Annapolis, Maryland; Thistles Fine Art, Lewes, Delaware; The Art Gallery at Interiors, Inc., Bristol, Rhode Island. Resume Kathy Daywalt began following her calling as a child. While working full time, and being a wife and mother, she continued to find time for art. Kathy graduated Suma Cum Laude from Anne Arundel Community College with an AA Degree in Fine Art in 1995 and has continued to study with a variety of successful, professional artists. In 2006 Kathy was honored to be asked to jury The Annapolis Watercolor Club exhibit at Linthicum Walks in Crofton, Maryland. She is represented at Benfield Gallery, Main Street Gallery, Thistles Fine Art and The Gallery at Interiors, Inc. STUDIED WITH: -
